Titanic actress Kate Winslet again Sharon's slap steals the show

The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button actor even joked: "It's a nice change for us all that sun".
There was one celebrity who won't have minded the weather one iota: Britain's very own golden girl Kate Winslet. Accepting the best actress Bafta for The Reader, the leading lady kept the emotion at bay - but only just.

"I want to thank my friends and family, especially my mum and dad, who I won't look at right now or I will burst into tears," she told the audience, before dedicating her triumph to Sydney Pollack and Anthony Minghella, producers of the WWII drama, both of whom died before its release.

Before the ceremony Slumdog Millionaire sensation Dev Patel, who's 18, expressed his amazement at being up for best actor saying, "someone please slap me". Sharon Stone, who'd caught up with him for a chat duly obliged.Though Mickey Rourke took top male prize for The Wrestler, it was still a great night for the youngster as the Mumbai-set drama won seven gongs, including best film and best director.

Another high-profile win went to Penelope Cruz, who declared herself "honoured and grateful" as she was named in the supporting actress category for her fiery turn as a temperamental artist in Vicky Cristina Barcelona

Meanwhile Heath Ledger, who died last year, won best supporting actor for his portrayal of the Joker in Batman flick The Dark Knight and director Terry Gilliam was given a Bafta fellowship - equivalent to a lifetime achievement award.
